So in my quest to find either easy/interesting ways to make a little extra cash or fulfilling/interesting ways to make a substantial amount over time, I came across a site called "inbox dollars." It fits with the first category, of course.
I just started using it a day or so ago so I don't know much about it yet. I've made about $7 on there already though, and it only took an hour. I highly doubt I can repeat that steady of a stream regularly; I think they made it considerably easy initially with the goal of luring me in. However, most of it really was effortless, so I'll keep it up for awhile. I'll continue posting about it here as well, as things develop.
It seems there are seven ways to make money on Inbox Dollars:
1. Fill out surveys.
This is a pretty common one, an easy one to find across the net. It seems the surveys are $0.50 each. However, most are about four "pages" long and tend to be just "check the box(es)." They took me no more than a few minutes each.
2. Play games
I don't like this option as much. Through another website called "World Winners" you have the POTENTIAL to make money. That's right, you don't actually make any money just for playing. Instead you either must earn "reward points" which you can redeem for cash or you must pony up your own dough, and compete against other players in order to win more money. As a five-year online poker player, let me warn you: the rake is IMMENSELY steep. Most poker sites rake in about 3-5% of the money that players put up. This site is nearer 20%! I suppose they can afford to, as I haven't seen much competition for this type of thing. Anyway, I'm going to avoid this.
3. Conduct searches
Their search engine seems adequate. You get $1 for downloading it. Apparently you get $0.01 for every two qualified searches, up to $0.15 per day. So that's 30 searches a day, max. You can also get a $0.05 bonus at the end of the week for using it four or more days. So that's a maximum of $1.20 a week. We'll see if it's a pain in the butt to use it, or if it's worth losing the potential buck to use google.
4. Watch videos
I didn't get a chance to do this as there weren't any available at the time (they only have a limited number of tasks available per day), but it seems similar to the survey: spend a few minutes, make $0.25-$2.
5. Read emails
As I am not a resident of the US, I was not allowed this option. Seems like a good system, though.
6. Complete tasks
Seems pretty simple on the surface: perform simple tasks, like determine whether or not the name of a website you are looking is the actual name for the website or help categorize merchandise. However, practically speaking it seems a little dubious so far. Besides the fact that it seems none of them exceed payouts of $0.30, it doesn't seem well-managed. I checked every task, and even the ones that claimed to be "available" were actually not.
7. Refer friends
Of course, there is a referral system. You can annoy friends by directly sending them an email or you can post a banner on your website. I'm going to opt for the second one. Either way, you get 10% of whatever they earn.
Another slight problem with it is the limitation on a number of ways to earn money. You can only watch so many videos per day, or do so many tasks per day, and you get no more than 3 paid emails per day. This may actually be an advantage to some of us who don't want to be bombarded with distractions, though.
All in all, it seems like a very legit, simple and straightforward way to make a bit of cash. Realistically I don't see it generating more than $20-$30 a month, but for the minimal amount of effort it requires, it may be worth it. We'll see.
A little update. Just got an available task. Laughable. $0.30 for half an hour of effort which requires research. No thanks, I'm not your lab rat.
